Boulder is home to world-famous athletes from runners to bikers to skiers, The city has a reputation for being one of the sunniest spots in the country, with a temperate climate throughout its seasonal changes. The closest ski area is approximately a half hour from town, and the famous ones are only 2-3 hours. For those who don't ski, there is ample opportunity for biking, climbing, hiking, and fishing all very near town. Boulder is quite active for a town of 100,000 people, with a very high concentration of high-tech industries that harbor an educated and cultured population. It is widely regarded as an excellent place to be a student, and there is no lack of cultural activities. A small selection:

Denver is home to professional teams of every major sport: Denver Broncos (football), Colorado Avalanche (hockey), Denver Nuggets (basketball), Colorado Rockies (baseball), and Colorado Rapids (soccer). With this in mind the APS department organizes several intramural teams, the most popular being ultimate frisbee and volleyball. We also field a softball team in the summer, and as always left-handed pitchers are especially welcome.
