"UCO Summer School and Professional Development experiences 2026: AstroTech Instrumentation Summer School and ISEE Professional Development Program (PDP)"

Abstract:

AstroTech is a summer school and a community sponsored by a generous grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation. Every summer AstroTech hosts a 1-week series of workshops at UC Berkeley in the Miu Lab which includes new participants, returning participants, and instructors.  Participants work in small teams to learn about instrumentation, effective teamwork, and optics in order to design, build, and test an optical instrument (spectrograph) that meets their teams’ science goals. The week includes a partner event where students have the opportunity to network with instrumentalists representing: start-ups, research labs, universities, and government agencies. At the core of AstroTech is a vibrant community committed to advancing the field of instrumentation and whose members support each other throughout their careers. AstroTech summer school is FREE for all participants.
