"Time and Tide: Galaxy Groups in the z<0.1 Cosmic Web"

A Pretty Image from the Talk

Abstract:

The role of environment within the framework of galaxy formation and evolution continues to be hotly debated. Semantics aside, this is largely due to the challenge of having to disentangle multiple mechanisms acting on varying timescales, across different stellar mass regimes, and within diverse environments.

In this talk I will discuss how we are combining data from the GAMA redshift survey and the WISE space telescope to better understand galaxy group evolution, and how data from the MeerKAT SKA Pathfinder could be key to revealing the importance of baryonic processes in these environments. I will also illustrate how we are using Virtual Reality and Partiview to visualise our 3D data, and how a new redshift survey in the southern hemisphere could be a game changer!
